Zero Electric Motorcycles

Zero makes marketable motorcycles, improving designs every year. The line includes five bikes: two road, two offroad, and one crossover. The first Zero was the dirt bike version that sold out in the first year of sales.

At the present, Zero is a leader in U.S. Electric motorcycle sales. The new Zero S model can hit close to 90 mph at a range of over 100 (9kWh pack) highway miles. The Zero DS offers on road and off road capabilities with a top end of 80 mph. Both of these bikes are made with 6 and 9 kWh battery packs.

Zero electric motorcycles come standard with super light weight frames, regenerative braking, brushless motors, and built in chargers...just plug the bike in. We like that. Zero battery packs are rated to 3,000 charge cycles. We really like that!

One of the unique features of the Zero electric motorcycle is their lightweight aluminum frame. The result is a frame that weighs in at an almost unbelievable 18 pounds! So far so good, none have been reported as broken in riding.

Zero dirt bikes include the X and MX models. The bikes have improved vastly over the past 5 years. Reviews have gone from calling the bikes quirky to great off road rides.

The 2012 Zero Dirt bikes X and MX models have improved performance even more. Increased battery packs boost off road riding tomes from 20 to 40 motocross minutes. Controller output is a whopping 400 amps maximum! Wow, this is some power on tap for a motorcycle. Zero dirt bikes recently won the day at the Las Vegas/Geico electric MX race.

Reviews

The first Zero bikes got good to mixed reviews. Each model year has brought improvements. The 2012 Zero S ZF9 gets top marks at gas 2.0.
