Two Tango in tandem: In the the Tango electric car, two people seated in tandem is the maximum seating capacity. It is one of the more unique automotive designs. The car defines thin. The car is 3-feet (1 meter) wide,
and 8 feet (1.7 meters) long. The car can split lanes of traffic in a jam.
The Tango T600 performance specs are impressive with sub 5 second 0-60 mph and sub 12 second quarter mile times, with a top end north of 170 possible. With lithium batteries, the range is given as 150 miles, presumably with the 49 KWh, $53,000 US K2 Battery pack.
The Tango is not the only tandem traversing the roads. The Lumeneo Smera
is a two-seater with impressive specs and Italian styling.
Note that with the 49 KWh pack and a 150 mile range, you are getting
about 327 watt hours per mile. Compare this to the Tesla Roadster at
217 watt hours per mile, or about a third less energy per mile. The
Tango weighs more and sits higher with a less streamlined shape than
the Tesla, which could be at least two reasons for the lower efficiency.
The most common comment regarding the Tango electric car has to do
with form vs. function. The car looks like it would fall over in a hard turn.
However, it will probably not since the considerable battery weight of the
vehicle, stored under the driver, keeps the rig stable.
The Tango electric car is pricey. At around $110,000 US per car for the
basic model, the payments would be more than a lot of house
payments. For example, Tango requires $10,000 down. If you were to
finance the balance:
Loan Amount: $100,000
Car loan interest rate: 6.81%
Loan Period in Months: 48
Monthly Payment: $2,385
Same loan over 5 years:
$1,971
And over 7 years:
$1,695
Add in the $53, 000 - 49 kWh battery pack and your monthly payments look something like this:
