The Smart electric car is a German original, and Chinese clone, at least in name. The cars look similar, but have different specs.

The original Smart Electric Car is now produced and marketed by Daimler as the Smart ED. This car is now available in Europe and the USA on a limited basis. The specifications are as follows:

In breaking news, BYD will team up with Daimler to make and manufacture electric cars. The duo will create a new brand expected to be marketed in China, the new largest car market in the world. This is an important development in the EV universe.

The first verified vehicle is made by the Jinan FlyBo Company. Flybo makes three electric models (among other electric cars) related to the Smart Car:

The second Chinese made Smart Car is produced by the Lujo EV R&D Co, Ltd. The Lujo company lists 50 electric cars in its lineup. It is not known if these cars are marketed by the manufacturer or another holding or sales company. Specs for two of the Lujo car models (a&b) follow.

The first unverified Chinese made Smart Electric Car is made by the Dongying
Dayou Electric Vehicle Co., Ltd. This Smart Car clone is an NEV, with a top speed of 55 kph or about 35 mph. This car is not really in the same class as the other Smart Cars except for the body style.
One other unverified Chinese company China Xianxing Group (Xianxing Vehicle Co., Ltd) makes NEV cars that also look like Smart Cars.
