Hyundai Hybrid Cars

Hyundai Hybrid Cars will be spear headed by the Sonata Hybrid. The drive train is called Hyundai Hybrid Blue Drive. The name seems in line with other hybrid terminology like "Two Mode" and Hybrid Synergy Drive."

The Sonata will however leave a few other hybrids in the dust. Power output of the Sonata is 209 HP. This power is from a 2.4 liter 4 banger producing some 169 hp, coupled with an electric motor making 40 hp.

The Sonata is designed to hit over 60 mph in electric only mode. This is roughly twice the speed of most other hybrids. All this and 37/39 city/hwy mileage figures. You will pay for the extra power though. The Sonata runs from a base of about $25,000 up to $32,000 top end.

At the top end, you can get modern amenities such as internet connectivity, back up camera, HD radio, 17" alloy wheels (wait until you shop for tires), satellite navigation, leather seats and premium sound gear.

The Hyundai is below average in pounds per horse power as on the chart. That is, more power to move less weight. This accounts for the performance of the car.
