The Ford Escape and Ford Hybrid Electric Sales
In 2011 some 27,000 new Ford Hybrid Elevtric Vehicles were sold. This was a decline from around 35,500 in 2010. One of the models experiencing decreasing sales was the Ford Escape Hybrid.
The Ford Escape Hybrid was one of a handful of well engineered and built SUV hybrids. The small rig got great reviews, and the price was competitive with other
hybrids. But, they have not sold well in recent years.
Ford has decided to stop production of the Escape Hybrid. The SUV sold some 10,000 vehicles in 2011, down from 11,000 in 2010. The Ford Fusion Hybrid has posted somewhat better sales of near 11,300 for 2011.
This reflects a drop in the overall hybrid market to just 2.4 percent of total sales. However, Ford expects HEV sales to rise again to around 10 percent of mnarket share by 2020.
Alon those lines, Ford plans to ramp up HEVs and EVs to some 100,000 in 2013. The new lineup will list feature 5 EVs and 2 new Fusion HEVs.
As you can see, the new hybrid offers a 18mpg advantage over the gas only Fusion. This improved economy translates into annual fuel savings.Given these savings you can expect a break even in just a few years, depending on the model you are interested in, and the price of gasoline per gallon.
Not shown are the Carbon savings. The Fusion hybrid reduces your yearly carbon output by around 3,500 pounds per year! That is a good thing.
2013 brings a newly re-styled Fusion Hybrid. The new Fusion will be offered in a gas only version, a plug in hybrid version, and gas hybrid model.
