Fisker cars are characterized by the Fisker Karma Hybrid. The Karma is probably the sharpest hybrid on the road today. This is in line with the designer, Henrik Fisker. He designed the Aston Martin DB9, BMW Z8, Mercedes SL and BMW 6-series models.
The performance, and price by the way, are also tops. Fisker PHEV cars are mostly sport cars at the present, though a crossover and 2-door model may be in the works. .
The exterior of the car needs no review. Interestingly, the car presently is classed as a 4-door sedan! The Karma would make one heck of a family rig. Imagine a fleet of Karma Taxi-Cabs.
The all aluminum frame and body make for a lightweight shell for the power plant.
Power is provided by a turbocharged, 2-liter, 4-cylinder, 260 HP, GM Ecotec ICE, and 2 electric motors developing a whopping 403 combined horsepower. Yes, the total power is 663 horses.
There are 2 modes of operation, stealth for battery only, and sport for ICE plus EV operation. In stealth, the car can hit 60 mph in 7 seconds, top out at 90 mph, and travel about 50 miles before recharge.
Sport mode is for the quick trip to the store. You can head down the highway ramp hitting 60 mph in just 5.8 seconds. Then you can blast to 125 mph, and go as far as 300 miles if needed.
The Karma features regenerative braking, independent suspension, traction control, and an electrically powered rack and pinion steering system, and brakes. Electrically powered brakes and steering are a great feature in any EV.
The first Karma units are now rolling out for sale.
The Fisker Atlantic
The Fisker Nina Project has produced a lower cost version of the Karma, the Kisker Atlantic. The car is scaled down, but the powertrain is similar to that in the Karma. Price is expected to be
about $50,000.
