As EVs continue to improve, they are setting all kinds of electric vehicle records. The modern EV is competitive with the modern internal combustion engine vehiles, and then some.
EV Speed Records
Electric Car Open Speed Records
The Electric car record curently goes to the Venturi Jamais Contente. The name is a nod to the original 1899 Venturi that went some 69 mph. The new version topped out almost 5 times faster at 320 mph. The Bonneville record was chalked up in August of 2010.
The much smaller Electric Blue car had set a record for it's class, at 155.8 mph average. The top speed run for the BYU student built car was 175 mph.
Electric Motorcycle Open Speed Record
A new EV cycle speed record has been posted at Bonneville. A modified Lightning Motorcycle has hit 208 miles per hour - 334 kilometers per hour. The speed is credited to a great base cycle, engineering, and a Remy HVH250 electric motor powering the bike.
Track Speed Record
A Toyota TMG EV P001 set a new lap record for electric cars. The EV zipped around the 13-mile Nurburgring race course in Germany in 7 minutes, 48 seconds.
The P001 is powered by two motors that cranking out some 375 horsepower pushing it to a top speed around 162 mph.
The P001 is fast, and within seconds of ICE race cars like the Corvette Z06 and Ferrari 599 Fiorano, Lamborghini Murcielago LP640, and the BMW M3 GTS. The Nurburgring course record was set in 1983 at 6:11 by a Porsche 956.

Track Distance Record
Team "Schluckspecht" has driven 1014.8 miles - 1631.5 km with a single battery pack and no recharging. The record drive took took place at the Bosch test track in Boxberg, Germany. The car was piloted by 4 drivers over 36 hours and 12 minutes.
The car was powered by 2 hub motors fed by a Nissan Leaf sized 23kWh battery pack...under 2/3 a gallon of gas. That equals 1610 mpg. Now that is efficient!
Production Car Distance Record
A Tesla Roadster holds the production EV distance of 311 miles on a single charge. The record was set at low speed on the flat back roads of Australia as part of the 2009 Global Green Challenge.
eBike Distance Record
A modified Stealth eBike has set the record for the longese eBike traveled in one week. The bike went 1,012 miles in 7 days.
Electric Drag Records
Electric Motorcycle - The Silver Giant posted 8.010 seconds over 1/8 mile, 79 mph -128 km/h, June 2010 at the Veidec raceway in Sweeden.
The Rocket electric drag motorcycle has covered the quarter mile in 6.94 seconds at 201 mph. The bike is powered by a 13 inch, 1,340 hp motor. The 355 volt, 14.2 kWh battery pack pushes big current through a 4,000 amp controller.
