NYCeWheels is a retailer of eBikes and carries many models. They offer much detailed information and have been in business for some time.
NYCeWheels is mentioned here since it is very likely that any online researcher of eBikes will run across their site. Some of the eBikes reviewed here are found on that site.
OHM Cycles
4.0 Stars
OHM produces a road eBike and mountain eBike using BionX kits. The bikes are premium priced, as are the kits. The kits are built into the frames and include handles for removal and carrying, a good and practical design feature.
The battery packs themselves are Li-Mn 37V 10 AH / 355Wh. Compare this to 36V 15AH /
540 Wh for our DIY eBikes.
Regenerative braking is standard; we like this. Range of OHM eBikes is estimated at 55 miles. This seems high, even with regen.
Other standard features include fast recharge (90% in 20 minutes) and hydraulic powered disc brakes. OHM bikes also come with a pedelec function.
OHM Urban XU700: This is the road version, using the BionX 350 Watt motor kit. The bike retains 27 gears, a feature we think more eBikes should have - more manual gears. Bike weight is 53 pounds; pretty good. Price is about $3,300 US; pretty high.
OHM Urban XU750: This eBike is basically the same as the XU700 but with extra lights, bells, and whistles attached. The extras will cost you $600 US. The total price of the XU750 is $3,700 US. This seems elevated for what you are getting.
Reviews of the OHM eBikes are typical of many eBikes. Here are some of the pros and cons summarized:
Pros: Cons:
Throttle button Expensive
Command console Heavy
Battery Unwieldy
BionX 350 Watt motor
Well equipped
Low center of gravity and well balanced
Easy step over
Optibike
5.0 Stars
The Optibike is modern eBike design champ as far as we are concerned. The bike is built with performance in mind. It costs as much as a good used car, motorcycle, or electric scooter.
The Optibike is powered by a frame built 20 AH (0.72 kWh) battery pack, 36 volt system, 850 Watt motor. The battery pack promises a 60 mile range. This seems possible, even with bike weight at 58 pounds.
The bike features plenty of extras, built to go just about anywhere, and everybody riding one seems to love it. If you have $12,000 US for an eBike, we say the Optibike is tops!
