New estimates put worldwide electric bike, electric scooter, and motorcycle growth at over 450 million units in the next 6 years. Many of these units are expected to be sold in China where an estimated 120 million eBikes reside.
China is the top producer of e-bikes. Some 3,000 manufacturers produced close to 30 million units last year. So as no surprise, many of the e-bikes and scooters profiled in the following pages are Chinese in origin.
The electric two wheel trend is catching on in other countries as well. An estimated 20,000 e-bikes sold in Australia, 130,000 units annually in India.
The German - Dutch market has expanded to 300,000 ebikes, and growing.
Pike research predicts: Sales in Western Europe will double annually through 2017. China is forecast to market an average of 8 million units per year up to 2017. The total number of e-motorcycles and e-scooters on the road, worldwide, will increase from 17 million in 2011 to 138 million by 2017.
